The Demolition of the Queen Victoria Commemorative Jubilee Pump on New Year's Day 2016
Three men and a woman were taken to hospital after a serious crash into the Jubilee Pump in the early hours of New Year's Day, 2016. Fire crews were called out to London Road at around 1.20am after the single-vehicle accident involving a blue Renault Clio.
The car was travelling from the Faversham direction towards Sittingbourne, and the crash happened near the Dover Castle public house.
Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment and, working with paramedics, created enough space to reach the four injured passengers. Three men and one woman, all believed to be in their mid-twenties, were treated before being transported to hospital by ambulance. The crash destroyed the historic water pump which was erected to mark Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee.
The monument was rebuilt in recent years after another car accident seriously damaged it in 2008.
